Laurence Wafle Obituary

Laurence E. Wafle, age 82, of La Valle, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2024, at the Reedsburg Area Medical Center. He was born at home on August 26, 1941, in Seven Mile Creek, Juneau County. He was the son of George and Marcella (Fessey) Wafle. On March 11, 1961, he was united in marriage to Frances Daugs. This marriage was blessed with three children.

Laurence worked at Grede Foundries for 45 years and also ran a Dairy Farm. After his retirement from Grede Foundries, he worked at Lands’ End. Laurence enjoyed gardening, cutting wood, and most of all—spoiling his grandchildren.

It didn’t matter if you knew him as “Laurence”, “Larry”, or “Pancake”; everyone that knew him would agree…. that he was a humble and simple guy. He was never one who needed to be the center of attention; he instead let whoever he was talking-to; feel that way. That is probably why one of his classmates wrote this in his high school yearbook:  “Larry, A Friend to Everyone”. That was a simple comment, but it was a great way to describe how people felt about Laurence.

Laurence was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joanne Grosklaus; brother, Edmund Wafle; and granddaughter, Frankie Lee Treptow.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances; children, Jeff (Karen) Wafle, Jill (Patrick) Bindl, and Terri (Frank) Treptow; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sisters, Veronica Nemitz, and Carolyn (William) Guenther, and brother, Patrick (Diane) Wafle; many nieces and nephews; along with other relatives and friends.

The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Casa de Oakes, and the Reedsburg Area Medical Center, for taking such wonderful care of Laurence.

Private family graveside service will be held at a later date at the Big Creek Cemetery, rural LaValle.
