Bernard J. Hanko, age 92, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2019 at his home in Rural Cazenovia. He was born on May 17, 1926, the son of Edward J. and Elise (Braund) Hanko. On August 23, 1947, Bernard was united in marriage to Elizabeth J. Kneip. This marriage was blessed with two children, Judith and Donald. Bernard was a life-long farmer, and in addition to farming, he was employed with Kraemer Construction. He enjoyed being outdoors especially lawn mowing and working in the woods. He was a NASCAR fan and listened to old-time country music. Bernard was a lifetime member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Parish, Cazenovia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Judith Lynn Hanko.
Bernard is survived by his wife Elizabeth "Betty”. Son Donald Hanko; Grandchildren: Lisa Laverty, Tammy Fowell, Julie Potts, Heidi Meyerscough, and Kristen (Billy) McAlpine; 17 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; sister, Priscilla Burdick along with nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Germantown, with Father Nathan Thainase officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday morning beginning at 9:00 AM. The Rosary will be prayed Wednesday morning at 10:40 before the Mass. Burial will take place on Saturday, February 9, in St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery, Germantown.
Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church for Masses.
