Caroline Zehnpfennig Obituary

Caroline Marie Zehnpfennig, age 87, of Reedsburg, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 25, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Wisconsin Dells. She was born on September 14, 1923 in Reedsburg to Minnie (Schultz) and William Sommers. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith on October 14, 1923 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Reedsburg and later confirmed there on March 21, 1937. She attended St. Peters Parochial School and later Reedsburg High School, graduating in the Class of 1941. On June 18, 1949, she was united in marriage to Eugene C. Zehnpfennig at St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was a lifelong member. Carolyn worked as a sales clerk at JC Penneys, A & P Grocery and, most recently, Jubilee Foods Bakery, retiring in 1991. Carolyn loved to entertain family and friends and couldn't wait to plan the next meal get together. Carolyn's feisty, positive nature and her strong faith in God carried her through open heart surgery in 2000 and a broken hip in 2004. Her deep devotion to her family, especially her granddaughters, was very evident and will be sorely missed. Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Gary) Fenske of Baraboo, granddaughters Meghan and Molly Fenske of Baraboo, two sisters Mabel Hummel of Middleton and Alice (Laurel) Kramer of Waupun, two brothers Orvan Sommers of West Bend and William Sommers of Pardeeville, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eugene, her sister Viola Koch, brothers-in-law John Hummel and Russell Koch and a sister-in-law Louise Sommers. Funeral services for Carolyn Zehnpfennig will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church in Reedsburg with Rev. Paul Crolius officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery.
