Cyril R. “Doc” Rego, age 86, of Cazenovia, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2019. He was born on June 24, 1933 in Richland County, Wisconsin, the son of Thomas William and Mary Catherine (Neary) Rego. A good portion of his life he played baseball and softball as a catcher. On April 7, 1951 he was united in marriage to Betty Stout. She preceded him in death on August 4, 2003. On December 16, 2010 he was united in marriage to Ruth E. Baldwin Clark. Doc hauled milk for Bunker Hill Cheese, and farmed for many years. After retirement he worked at Lands’ End and Reedsburg Foods. Doc also enjoyed woodworking. He was very proud of his Irish heritage. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and St. Bridget Cemetery Board.
Cyril was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; son-in-law, John Walker; brothers and sisters and in-laws, Alreda Clover, Joseph “Mike” (Lorraine) Rego, Bernice (Nelson) Atkinson, Lorraine (Glen) Rollette, William Rego, John (Ardith) Rego, Eugena (LeRoy) Walters, Francis “Martin” Rego.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Cazenovia; his children: Sheila (Leroy) Box, Diane Walker, Kevin (Pam) Rego, Shawn (Rebecca) Rego, Dan Rego, Kurt Rego and Kelly Rego; step-children Edith Clark, Richard (Jamie) Clark, Mark (Kim) Clark, Alan (Lindsey) Clark, and Dean (Lisa) Clark; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 19 step-grandchildren and 29 step-great-grandchildren; sisters Donna (Robert) Phillippi of West Allis and Patricia (Bill) Dolan of Kenosha; sisters-in-law, Marybel Rego of Loyd and Frances Rego of Hastings,MN.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Cyril Rego will be conducted at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Cazenovia, with Father Nathan Thainase officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bridget’s Cemetery, Westford Township, Richland County. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the Cazenovia Chapel with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will also be on Saturday from 12:30 P.M. until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
