Esther E. Rego

Esther E. Rego, age 88 of Reedsburg, formerly of LaValle, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at the Sauk County Health Care Center surrounded by her family. She was born on February 20, 1931 in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of John H. and Lorelda R. (Nau) Wilde. Esther was a 1949 graduate of Washington High School in Milwaukee, and a 1953 graduate of Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing.  On September 26, 1953 she was united in marriage to Alfred J. Rego in Milwaukee.

Esther worked as an RN at the Reedsburg Memorial Hospital and the Edward Snyder Nursing Home. She was the Director of Nursing at Edgewood Nursing Home in Elroy, WI, and Assistant Director and Director of Nursing at the Sauk County Health Care Center.

She was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church in LaValle where she served on the Council of Catholic Women and various boards and committees. Esther was also a member of the Reedsburg Business Women’s Association. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and craftwork. Following her retirement she babysat for her grandchildren and neighbors. She was great with children and they loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred on July 8, 1997; an infant son, Jeffery; brother, Gene Wilde; sister-in-law, Dorothy Wilde, and nephew, Timothy Wilde.

Esther is survived by her children: Sandra (Ronald) Rollins of Wonewoc, John (Cindy) Rego of New Auburn, Susan Hinze (Steve Carroll) of Milton, Joseph (Debra) Rego of Wonewoc, and James (Billie Jo) Rego of Montello; grandchildren: Stacey (Patrick) Thering, Jeremy Rego, Christopher Rollins, Jason (Christine) Rego, Matthew Hinze, Trevor Hinze, Taylor (Brandon) Bolton, Cuger Rego, Hunter Rego, Kelsey Rego and Cheyenne Spoehr; great-grandchildren: Darien, Landon and Draven Rego, Benjamin, Brielle, Joshua and Maya Thering, Braelyn and Brooks Rego;

Brothers: Kenneth Wilde, Robert (Jane) Wilde, James (Beverly) Wilde; special family member, Emily Berberich; several nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Esther Rego will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Friday, March 8, 2019, at Holy Family Catholic Church in LaValle with Father Sanctus Ibe officiating. Burial will follow in St. Bridget’s Cemetery, Westord Township, Richland Co., WI. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg with a Nightingale service at 4:00. Visitation will also be on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials of remembrance may be made to the Alzheimers and Dementia Alliance, Diabetes Association or the Sauk County Health Care Center.
