Lorna Hamburg Obituary

Lorna Aurella Hamburg, passed away peacefully at the age of 96 years on November 4, 2018. She was born the youngest of six children to Emil and Ida (Koenig) Koppen on October 14, 1922 at the family farm in Sauk County, Wisconsin near Hillpoint. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hillpoint, WI. Her strong faith in God sustained her through her entire life. On April 12, 1958 she was married to Harvey Hamburg. They settled in Reedsburg, WI, and together raised four children. She was a member of St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Reedsburg and very active in church life singing in the choir, member of the Ladies Aid and a very faithful servant of the Lord. Lorna was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #1916 Auxilliary. She was very hard-working, known for her excellent baking skills, with many requests for her pie and pickles, and especially for her needlework-cross-stitching, embroidery, crocheting and quilting. Up until her last days she very rarely sat down without her “fancywork” in her lap. But most of all she was a loving mother and cared for her children and grandchildren who were everything to her teaching them kindness and to forgive. After retirement she and Harvey left their lifetime home and followed their children wherever it took them. For a time residing in Green Bay, then in Mount Horeb, and most recently in Rhinelander, WI.

Lorna was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harvey on February 7, 1994; three brothers and spouses, Alvin, Arthur (Vera), Everett (Irene); two sisters, Norma and Alma (in infancy); Harvey’s siblings and spouses, Frances (Ernie) Leake, Roland, Lucille (Jim) Poupart and Helen Geitz.

She is survived by her four children: Karen (Tim) Joski of Green Bay, Diane (Scott) Biscobing of Rhinelander, Gary (Cindy) of Mount Horeb, and Sandy  Hamburg (Harold Jefferson) of Rhinelander; nine grandchildren:  Leah (David), Paul, Megan (Andy), Lauren (Brian), Madeline (Dustin), Claire, Grace, Bristel (Coley) and Olivia; four great-granddaughters: Deanna, Aurella, Fiona and Nola Rose; family friend, Leona Greene; brother-in-law: Lawrence Geitz; niece, Donna (Leo) Tourdot; nephew, Dennis (Judy) Koppen along with other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
