Mildred "Milly" Gabelt Obituary

 

Mildred “Milly” Gabelt, age 83, of Reedsburg, WI, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, December 18, 2018. She was born on November 4, 1935 in Arena, WI, the daughter of Florian and Irene (Scholl) Gabelt. The family lived in small towns in Wisconsin until Milly was in grade school when they moved to Reedsburg. She graduated from high school in 1954 where she made lifelong friends.

Milly received her elementary teacher’s degree from the College of Saint Mary in Omaha, Nebraska. She attended the University of Nebraska and the University of Texas working on her master’s degree. She taught second grade at Holy Cross School in Omaha, NE from 1960 to 1981 when she moved to Houston, TX. There she taught second grade at Whidby Elementary School in the Houston Independent School District. She retired in 1999 when she returned to Reedsburg to live.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, brother-in-law Marlen Farber and sister-in-law Betty Gabelt, and many relatives.

Milly is survived by her sister, Leona (Phil) Wells; her brother, Donald Gabelt, both of Reedsburg; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mildred “Milly” Gabelt will be conducted 11:30 A.M., Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Reedsburg with Father David Carrano officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the church.

The Farber Funeral Home, Reedsburg, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
