Olive Miller Obituary

Olive Anne (Wix) Miller age 101, of Cazenovia, Wisconsin passed away on June 23, 2019, at home with her family by her side. Olive was born in Staadt, Wisconsin, near Stratford, April 22, 1918, the daughter of Marie (Aschenbrenner) and Anthony Wix.

After graduation from Stratford High School, she worked in offices at Wausau, WI, for five years. Olive married Edmund R. Miller during World War II and lived at Army bases, part time, when Ed was promoted to an officer.  After five years, Ed was discharged and the couple moved to Badger Village Student housing in Sauk County, WI, where Ed commuted to UW Madison to finish his college education. Then in 1950 they moved to Richland Center, WI, which was their home for fifty-two years. They were both active in church and community affairs:

With her strong faith, she enjoyed attending daily mass most of her life.  Olive taught CCD at St Mary’s school and made at least one mission rosary per day from 1950 to 2016.  These were sent all over the world. Olive was an officer of Legion of Mary, was on hospitality for Altar Society, and delivered meals on wheels.  She worked in The Borden Creamery lab and office for many years.  Olive also enjoyed PTA, Homemakers Club, and night school at UW-Richland Center.

When they retired in 1980 Ed and Olive attended Elderhostels and Homemaker trips abroad.  They visited relatives, parks, and kept records of the forty-eight states they experienced in the USA.

Olive was the family genealogist and had extensive family photo albums. She was a published writer.  Olive also was an ardent button collector and longtime member and officer of the Woodman Button Club.  She was a devoted mother, grand and great-grandmother, prayerful, grateful, and kind with a sense of humor.  Olive had a zest for life and was physically active: walking to work most days, enjoying skiing in her youth and swimming with Ed in her retirement.  During her lifetime she saw the early introduction of electricity, automobiles, and airplanes into rural America.  Olive was a good homemaker.  She enjoyed going ice fishing with Ed and making crab apple jelly from their own tree. In 2006 Olive moved to Cazenovia, WI, to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law.  Olive became a member of St. Anthony’s Parish in Germantown, and was happy to be a part of the Caz Community.

Ed preceded Olive in death in 2004. Olive was also preceded in death by sisters Leone, Geraldine and Betty; and brothers, Robert (Bob) and Kenny.

Survivors are her daughter Mary Carol (Roderick A.) Baker of Cazenovia, WI, and son Mark (Nancy) Miller of White Bear Lake, MN; grandchildren:  Carol A. Baker of Reedsburg, WI, Roderick S. (Moira Corcoran) Baker of Winona, MN, Matthew (Lauren) Miller of Two Harbors, MN, Dr. Ivy (Sharad Rathnam) Miller of Woodbury, MN; great-grandchildren: Molly Corcoran-Sanders, Reid and Colin Miller, Isla and Morgan Rathnam; siblings Mae Luedtke, Green Bay, Wi, Carol (Don) Hibbard of Brunswick, GA,  and Jim (Shirley) Wix of Lincoln CA.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated for Olive Miller on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 12:00 Noon, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Germantown. The Reverend Jerome Schroeder will be the Celebrant. Visitation will also be on Thursday at the church from 10:45 am until the time of the mass. The rosary will be prayed at 11:40 am.  Burial will be made in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Richland Center.

Memorials may be made to St. Anthony Parish, to be used for a Mass in Olives’ name at a later date. (32505 County Highway V, Cazenovia, WI 53924).
