Arthur Steffen Obituary

Arthur Gaylord Steffen, age 71, of LaValle, WI, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at the UW Hospital in Madison. He was born to parents Albert and Alta (Rose) Steffen on June 17, 1951 in Reedsburg, WI.  He grew up in Winfield and Seven Mile Creek townships and attended school in the Reedsburg school district.  He was married to Lynn Mittlesteadt.

Art was a jack of all trades. He could fix or build anything. He worked for several companies over his lifetime including Grede Foundry, the Wilderness, and currently at Lakeside Foods. He owned his own businesses for many years owning Steffen BouMatic, and J&S Trailers. Through these associations he had friends all over the state.

Art was an avid car and truck enthusiast. He owned many collector vehicles in his life.  He was involved in truck pulling competitions in the area for several years, winning many trophies. Every October you could find him in the woods coon hunting. Going hunting for elk and mule deer out west was by far his favorite hobby. He took many trips out west over the years to Colorado, Utah, Montana, Idaho and Nevada.  Those hunting trips hold the best memories of him.  Art also enjoyed fishing up in northern Wisconsin and Canada. He traveled a lot in his younger years taking trips to Alaska, Mexico and Caribbean cruises.

His daughters and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He loved spending time with them, especially going out to eat. He spent many hours with his grandson Braeden working on trucks and outdoor equipment or just out driving around.  He was the definite firecracker in his family, always keeping family gatherings eventful with his jokes and teasing. His presence will be greatly missed.  Art was always there to help friends and family alike. He would go out of his way to help so many others.

Preceding him in death are his parents, his sister and brother-in-law June (Glenn) Francois, brother-in-law Jerry Mitchell as well both sets of grandparents Fred (Ethel) Rose, and Frank (Amelia) Steffen. He also recently lost a cousin, Gene Rose.

Art is survived by his daughters Mandy Steffen, LaValle; Ashley Steffen, New Lisbon, Lori Francis, Brodhead, and his daughter Lori Francis. He is also survived by his grandchildren Braeden, Niyah, Aria, Zach and Alex. He is further survived by his siblings Wayne (Beth) Steffen, Ripon, Connie (Terry) Ryczek, Reedsburg, Earl (Ruth) Steffen, Mauston, Terry (Terry) Smith, Lake Delton, Shelby Mitchell (Ken Kaldenberg), Reedsburg, and Dawn (Chris) Linder Gretna, NE. He is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews who cherish their crazy uncle as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. In addition, he is survived by many cousins who he grew up with including special cousins Bev and Ken Duren that were as close as siblings.   He will also be missed by many close friends and extended family as well.
