Bernard F. Strutz, age 74, of Reedsburg, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2026, at the UW Hospital in Madison. He was born on May 22, 1951, in Reedsburg, WI, the son of Harold and Evelyn (Ziech) Strutz. Bernie was a 1969 graduate of Webb High School. He excelled in football and was regarded by some as a legend on the field. His passion for sports continued throughout his life. He was an avid fan of NASCAR, especially following Bill and Chase Elliott, and he closely followed the Badgers and Green Bay Packers.
On September 18, 1971, Bernie was united in marriage to Polly A. Hineman at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Reedsburg. This marriage was blessed with three sons.
Bernie dedicated 53 years of his career to Hartje Lumber where he worked as a foreman. His leadership left a lasting impact on his co-workers and the company. Bernie was a car enthusiast and a proud Dodge fan. Above all, Bernie cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren. He enjoyed attending their sporting events and being together whenever possible.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Richard (Audrey) Strutz, Delores (Melvin) Holmes, Myrna Strutz, Jerry Strutz, Jim Strutz; nieces, Lisa Holmes and Kathy Ryczek.
Bernie is survived by his wife, Polly; sons, Patrick (Krista) Strutz of Reedsburg, Mark Strutz of Aubrey, TX, Scott (Courtney) Strutz of Prairie du Sac; grandchildren: Tasha Haase, Ashlyn Strutz, Alexa Strutz, Kendall Strutz, Adria Strutz; siblings: Carolyn Strutz of Viroqua, Garland (Sandra) Strutz of Reedsburg, Fred (Rita) Strutz of LaValle; nieces, nephews, cousins along with many friends.
A memorial service for Bernard Strutz will be conducted 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the Farber Funeral Home, Reedsburg. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 10, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Farber Funeral Home and on Saturday from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the RAHS Gridiron Club.
