Bruce A. Saniter, age 78, of Reedsburg, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 11, 2023, at his home surrounded by family. He was born on December 19, 1944, in Watertown, WI, the son of Gerhard and Ella (Ladwig) Saniter.  Bruce was a 1963 graduate of Watertown High School.  He was a Police Officer for the City of Watertown and later was an Administrator of the Watertown School District. He retired in 1999, as an Administrator of the Greenfield School District.

On December 12, 1988, Bruce was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Zielinski. After Bruce’s retirement, he and Mary Ellen moved to Lyndon Station where they built their dream home. They enjoyed their time in that home for 18 years before moving to Reedsburg. Bruce was an avid woodworker; enjoying stripping and refinishing furniture.  He and Mary Ellen traveled the state hunting for unique pieces to work on.  Bruce had a fun sense of humor and a love for life.  His curiosity brought him knowledge and gained him many friendships. He was a member of St. John ELCA in Reedsburg where he served on the Church Council for several years. He was a member of the Watertown Safety Council and Jaycees.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen of Reedsburg; children, Grimaldo Walker (Paula Cooney) of Minneapolis, MN, Kevin (Sarah) Hegg of Reedsburg, Jason Hegg of Madison; son-in-law, Dan Schleicher; grandchildren, Natalya Walker, Graham Walker, Joelle (Emmanuel) Marioni, Kristen (James) Lucente, Danielle (Dylan) Payne, Abby Hegg and Andrew Hegg; great-grandchildren, Eli, Emmanuel, Eliana and Eden; several nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Fortunata Saniter Schleicher, brother, LaVern Saniter; sisters, Marlene Beyer and Mayris Schuenemann.

A memorial service for Bruce Saniter will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Reedsburg, with Pastor Beth Voigt officiating.  Visitation will be held on Sunday from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Reedsburg Area Helping Hands, 624 Willow Street, Reedsburg, WI 53959 in Bruce’s memory.
