Charles William Carpenter, 91, passed away as he wished in his home, Saturday, July 1, 2023, in Holdrege, Nebraska.
Charles "Chuck" was born October 16, 1931, to Archie and Olive Carpenter in Beloit, Illinois. The family later moved to Mauston Wisconsin where Chuck graduated from High School in 1949.
Chuck met Audrey Sosinsky at a dance near La Valle in April of 1952, and they married that same year on October 4th. Chuck was drafted into the Army and served in the Korean War from 1952-1954. Upon his return from war he worked for the Sauk County Highway Department until his retirement.
They made their home in LaValle, Wisconsin. Chuck and Audrey had two sons Steve and Richard. Chuck was a member of the American Legion and a Fireman in LaValle.
Chuck and Audrey moved to Reedsburg in 2006. They relocated to Holdrege, Nebraska in 2015 to be near Rich and his family.
Chuck loved to dance with Audrey and he did it well. He loved to hunt and fish both in Wisconsin and later in life in Nebraska. They had many fond memories of their dear group of LaValle friends, Springers, Borchers and Moore's. Chuck was always thrilled to attend events of his three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Chuck was always willing to help friends, family and neighbors. He enjoyed being independent and spent years as Audrey's loving caregiver. He begrudgingly gave up his driver's license when his vision no longer permitted it. He enjoyed relatively good health until recent months with a diagnosis of stage 4 cancer but remained determined to live at home. This was possible with Brookestone Home Health and Hospice. He appreciated all the care especially that of Lisa and Amy.
Chuck is survived by sons, Steve Carpenter of Pennsylvania: Richard Carpenter and his wife Linda of Oxford, Nebraska; grandchildren; Andy Carpenter of Oxford, Nebraska; Travis Carpenter and his wife Anna of Omaha, Nebraska; Wendy Parr and her husband Nathan of Fremont, Nebraska; great grandchildren: Ava, Beckam, Kenni, Willow, Londyn, Alice and Bennett: sister Joyce Miller of Baraboo; sister-in-law Donna Rabuck of LaValle: nieces and nephews; Jim and Norma Miller of Mauston; Fritz and Diana Miller of Baraboo; Cindy Miller of Baraboo; Tim and Debbie Miller of Willard; Candy and Dave Evans of Mauston; Sandy Miller of Baraboo; Larry and Colleen Miller of Mauston; Jill and Dan Statz of Reedsburg; Vickie and Chuck Holton of Wisconsin Dells; Carla and Leon Lombard of LaValle; Teena and David Wobschall of Fort Atkinson; great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
