Charles "Chuck" Zimmer Obituary
Charles "Chuck" Zimmer of La Crosse, Wisconsin, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, after living courageously with Alzheimer's disease and Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA). He was a loving husband, devoted father, and fun-loving "Pop Pop" to his grandchildren.
Chuck lived life to the fullest. He cherished time with his family, loved to travel, enjoyed discovering new restaurants, and could often be found taking one of his beloved Corvettes on a long winding drive. A lifelong Green Bay Packers fan, he proudly attended the legendary Ice Bowl in Green Bay and held season tickets for nearly 50 years.
Born and raised in Neenah, Wisconsin, Chuck graduated from high school in 1975 before moving to La Crosse to attend the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse, where he earned a degree in Business Administration. While at UWL, he was a proud member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, embracing its principle of "Service Above All." To support himself through college, Chuck worked as a bread delivery driver while attending classes full-time. He often shared stories of navigating Wisconsin's back roads in a large delivery truck during those years.
Following graduation, Chuck began his career with Trane Company, where he built a successful and respected career spanning 36 years. He retired as Director of Financial Services. Never one to stop learning, Chuck later returned to UW–La Crosse and earned his Master's degree in Business Administration while raising a young family.
Along the way, Chuck met the love of his life, Sharon. They married in 1983 and shared a love story that endured for more than four decades. Together they raised two children, Stacey and Jake, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.
Chuck believed deeply in giving back to his community. From an early age, he was civic-minded and dedicated to service. He volunteered with the Jaycees, St. Patrick's Church, local food banks, the Corvette Club road rallies, Rotary Lights, and served as a board member for Oktoberfest. Sharon was his faithful partner in these efforts, often volunteering right alongside him.
Most importantly, Chuck loved people. He worked hard, played hard, and embraced every opportunity to enjoy life. Even after his Alzheimer's diagnosis, he refused to let the disease define him. He remained active in programs including Oasis, memory camps, STAR fitness, music therapy, Body & Brain, and the YMCA. Many of these programs were supported by EndAlz Fest and the Alzheimer's Association of Wisconsin, organizations that became important parts of his journey. Through it all, Chuck faced each day with dignity, determination, and grace.
Chuck is survived by his beloved wife and partner in crime, Sharon; his daughter, Stacey (Todd) Galvin, and their children, Clayton, Wyatt, and Scarlett; and his son, Jake, who remained his Green Bay Packers companion right up to the end.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cyril "Honey" Zimmer and Dorothea "Doris" Zimmer, and brother Tom (Zoom) Zimmer.
Chuck is also survived by many dear friends who became family throughout his life and especially during his journey with Alzheimer's disease.
