Connie L. Duren Giacalone

Connie L. Duren Giacalone, age 100, of Ironton, WI, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at the Reedsburg Area Senior Life Center surrounded by her family. She was born on August 8, 1923 in Madison, WI, the daughter of Richard Lee and Sara (Gasser) Thornton.

Connie was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in LaValle, and a member of the Cazenovia American Legion Auxiliary. She volunteered at the Reedsburg Hospital and the Sauk County Health Care Center until she was 90. She loved dancing, and enjoyed music and playing cards.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Robert Duren, January 1, 1984; her second husband, Anthony “Tony” Giacalone on November 9, 2007; her daughter Judith “Judy” Schmidt; son John Duren; and grandson Paul Schmidt.

Connie is survived by her children: Richard (Carol) Duren, Thomas (Marion) Duren, Frank (Debra) Duren; son-in-law, Ed Schmidt; four stepchildren; 11 grandchildren; many great and great-grandchildren; special nieces, Mary Barefield and Dianne Dieter; special nephew, John (Julie) Anderson; along with other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Connie will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Holy Family Catholic Church in LaValle with Father Garrett Kau officiating. Visitation will also be on Tuesday morning from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the church. A private family burial will be held at a later date in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Cazenovia. Memorials of remembrance may be made to the ALS Foundation in lieu of flowers.

The family would like to thank the Reedsburg Area Senior Life Center Staff, and Agrace Hospice for the special care given to Connie.
