David Awald Schulte, 83, of Hillpoint, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2025, at his residence after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
David was born April 13, 1941, at his home in Hillpoint to the late Awald and Lorna (Meyer) Schulte. He graduated from Weston High School in 1959. On July 24, 1965, he married Sharon Long and were blessed with three children. He was a lifelong dairy farmer in the Town of Washington. On July 9, 1994, he married Alice Jurgens Blum.
He was a faithful, dedicated member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hillpoint, WI.
David loved watching the Packer, Brewer and Badger games. He became a Packer ticket holder after being on the waiting list for 40 years. He was in his glory hunting elk in Colorado, fishing in Canada along with deer and turkey hunting in Wisconsin. In his younger years, he participated in tractor pulls, softball and snowmobiling. He served as a volunteer firefighter for 50 years with the Hillpoint Fire Dept. since 1959 including fire chief for 25 years. He was on the Town of Washington board of supervisors for 30 years. Dave was scheduled to receive the Certificate of Commendation from Rep Tony Kurtz on March 31, 2025, for his lifelong dedication to his community.
One of his most important dedications was to his family which he cherished very much. He loved spending time watching his children and grandchildren in their different events.
In addition to his wife Alice, David is survived by his children: Jody (Mark) Schmitt of Cazenovia, and Michael (Kristene) Schulte of Milladore, his stepchildren; Kevin (Gail) Blum of Mindoro, Lisa (Tom) Bornhorst of Madison, MN, Stacey (Trent) Knutson of Moorhead, MN, Shelley (Russ) Redfield of Clinton, MN and Nichole Blum of Madison, MN. He is further survived by thirty-two grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren; his siblings, Carol (Jim) Kast, Donna Brandt, and Rick (Traci) Schulte, all of Hillpoint; many nieces and nephews, along with other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Bryan Schulte, and sister Ella Mae LeMoine.
Funeral Services for David will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hillpoint. Pastor Tim Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 3, 2025, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg, and at the church on Friday from 10:00 am until 10:45.
Burial will follow services at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Hillpoint. A luncheon will be held at the church.
