Dennis L. Arkin, age 80, of Reedsburg, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024, at the Reedsburg Area Medical Center. He was born on December 19, 1943, in Milwaukee, WI, the son of Burton and Beatrice (Leroux) Arkin.

Dennis was a 1962 graduate of West Allis Central High School where he began his football career. He furthered his education at the University of WI LaCrosse where he met his wife, Cheryl, played football, and graduated with a Masters Degree in Kinesiology. His football career continued as he played for the semi-pro West Allis Spartans for two seasons. Dennis started his coaching career at South Division High School in Milwaukee where he also taught biology (1967-1970). He accepted the head football coach position in 1971 and taught Physical Education and coached at Webb High School in Reedsburg (1971-1978). After leaving teaching and starting a career in sales he continued coaching part-time as an assistant at Carroll College (1981-1984) in Waukesha. His coaching career concluded with two seasons at Milwaukee Lutheran High School (1985-1986), and one season at Weston High School. His sales career included time at The House of Stainless, Xerox, and Central Supply.

On August 27, 1966, Dennis was united in marriage to Cheryl J. Hermann. They were blessed with two sons, Grady and Andrew.

A member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Reedsburg, Dennis served as an Elder. He was a member and former officer of the Reedsburg Lions Club. Dennis was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing, especially numerous trips to Canada with family and friends. He cherished the time he spent with his family and the dogs he had as companions through the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Raymond Arkin.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 57 years, Cheryl, of Reedsburg, sons, Grady (Veronica) Arkin of Windsor, CO, Andy (Rebecca) Arkin of Portage, grandchildren, Owen (Bailyn) Arkin, Tanner Arkin and Carmen Arkin, brother-in-law, Jim (Nanette) Hermann of Alpharetta, GA, nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Dennis Arkin will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 14, 2024, at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Reedsburg, with Pastor Paul Crolius officiating. Private family burial will follow in the church cemetery. A Visitation will be held on Friday from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran School or the American Diabetes Association.
