Donald Grant Powell Obituary

Donald G. Powell, age 77, of Sandusky, WI, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at home surrounded by his family. He had fought a long and painful battle with cancer. He was born on June 26, 1947, in Reedsburg, WI, the son of Walter E. and Geraldine M. (McDermott) Powell. On October 15, 1977, he was united in marriage to Cheryl Halverson at Holy Redeemer Church in Milwaukee. Donald worked in sheet metal construction in the Milwaukee and Madison area until his retirement. He was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local Union #18. He loved to be outside wearing his bibs and doing farm chores. One of the highlights of his retirement was building a home with his twin brother Ronnie in Sandusky. Donnie was a constant caregiver to his brother while Ronnie battled the effects of Agent Orange. He will always be remembered for his willingness to help anyone. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson Owen; his special twin Ronald; and his sister Mary Jacklin. Donald is survived by his wife Cheryl, daughters; Dominique (Scott), and Monica (Matt) grandchildren; Tierney, Rayonna and Nathan; brothers Walter Powell Jr. (Sandi), Richard Powell (Heidi - deceased), Gerald (Judy) Powell and Francis Powell. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Donald Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 1:00 pm at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Loreto. Reverend Luke Syse will be the Celebrant. Visitation will also be on Saturday, at the church from 11:00 am until the time of service. Burial will be made in the Sandusky Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in his name. The Farber Funeral Home, Reedsburg, is assisting the family.
