Donald R. Ritzenthaler Obituary
Donald “Don” Roger Ritzenthaler, 82, of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo. Born on June 10, 1943, in Baraboo to Edward and Margaret Ritzenthaler, Don graduated with honors from Baraboo High School in 1961. Shortly after graduation, he proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, serving as an electronics technician aboard a Navy ship during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Following his honorable service, Don attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison, earning a degree in Electrical Engineering.
On November 25, 1967, Don married the love of his life, Linda Judd, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage and raised two children, Lisa and Kevin. Don’s professional career was marked by innovation. Don was employed by Eagle Signal of Baraboo for many years, where he used his expertise to invent various electrical components that were subsequently patented by the company. Later in his career, he designed critical components for military aircraft. He also founded his own business, Technical Services. This venture allowed him to utilize his vast knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems. Ever a lifelong learner, Don also achieved a personal milestone by earning his pilot’s license.
Beyond his professional life, Don’s heart belonged to his family and the outdoors. He was well known for hosting unforgettable Fourth of July celebrations at his park-like home in Reedsburg (The Outback)—an oasis he developed and lovingly maintained. These gatherings were a joyful blend of fireworks, food, laughter, and friendly competition, especially the family’s favorite game of croquet. His annual fishing trips to Canada with family and friends also created cherished memories for all who joined him.
A man of deep character, Don’s kindness was best seen in his service to others. He was a devoted supporter of his late Uncle Foxy, visiting him daily to share his time and love during his uncle’s declining years. Don’s life was defined by simple joys: daily visits to The Outback, often with friends, observing nature—particularly his favorite pair of geese, George and Mabel—and spending countless hours in his shop. He possessed a special talent for being able to fix anything, and he was always eager to share his skills and a helping hand with others.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Margaret Ritzenthaler; his infant grandchild, William Fieck; his sister, Marlene Natvick, and her husband, Jerry; his brothers, Dick Ritzenthaler and David Ritzenthaler; David’s wife, Carol, and their daughter, Tara; and his sister-in-law, Joyce Ritzenthaler.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Judd Ritzenthaler; his daughter, Lisa (Bill) Fieck, and grandchildren Brennan (Krista Dunlap) Fieck and Alec (Elisabeth) Fieck; his son, Kevin (Haley) Ritzenthaler, and grandchildren Luke and Crue; his brothers, Chuck, Ken (Braketta), and Tom (Crystal) Ritzenthaler; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be held at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Baraboo. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
