Dorothy Ann Grover Obituary

Dorothy Grover, 91, of Reedsburg, passed on to glory on Thursday, August 28, 2025 after a brief illness at Casa de Oakes Memory Care in Reedsburg, WI. Dorothy was born on August 4, 1934, one of 10 daughters born at home in Taylor Ridge, IL to William Marquis and Mabel (Gaston) Crawford. She graduated from Reynolds High School in Illinois.

Dorothy married Robert Ned Grover on August 28, 1955 in Edgington, IL. Dorothy and Ned celebrated 59 years of marriage together until Ned’s passing in 2014. They were blessed with three children.

Dorothy was a hard worker. After leaving farming in 1986, Dorothy worked the next 20 years for Home Health United first shift, and the old Sauk County Health Care Center on the second shift. Dorothy loved and enjoyed helping and caring for others until her retirement in 2010 to care for her husband. Dorothy and Ned enjoyed dancing and were often seen at weddings and community events waltzing around the floor.

Dorothy had many passions in life including making pies, and growing beautiful plants in her home. In 1960 she helped create a women’s card club in the Hillpoint area. Sixteen women would get together and play 500 once a month rotating from home to home until 2021. She was an avid bowler. She loved to bowl and continued to have a 148 average until 2023 when she one day announced, “I am done bowling”.

Dorothy had an amazing tenacity for life, we think, was developed growing up in a home with 10 sisters, and one outhouse. She kept this to the end. Losing her independence was hard, and always until the end said, “I can take care of myself.”

The family would like to thank Casa de Oakes Memory Care for their care of Dorothy, and Caitlin, Mariah and Alycia for their one on one care during her stay. They would also like to thank St. Croix Hospice for their attention and care for Dorothy. Shannon for your personal care for her daily needs, also to nurse Rain and Kourtney, and Chaplain Fred Schumacher. Dorothy touched so many lives in her lifetime. Her life made a difference from home care, to loving her friends and family. She had such a heart to help and serve others – just as Jesus would do. She never complained except telling staff, “My son thinks I need a shower, so I better take one”.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ned; granddaughters Olivia Noele Grover and Ashley Sierra Beaton; sisters Zylphia (Bob) Collen, Alberta (Rodney) Rosso, Betty (Jim) Lovell, Myrtle (Don) Stewart, Miona (Wayne) Peterson, Harriet (Alex) Standgard, Bernadine Figurin, and Charline (Vernon) Theisen.

She is survived by her children, Thomas Grover of Madison, Lee (Julie) Grover of Portage, and Ann Showers of Madison; grandchildren, Nicole (Jonathan) deJongh, Kyle (Stephanie) Gudenschwager, Katherine (Ryan) Anderson and Da’Mon White; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Mary (Ken) Iverson, brothers-in-law Dale Grover, and Tony Figurin, all of Illinois; family friends, Mildred (Ervin) Lentz, and Patricia (Delbert) Gudenschwager; nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends.

A Memorial service for Dorothy will be conducted at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at the Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg with Pastor Fred Schumacher officiating. Burial will be made in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
