Eileen L. Mathis Obituary

Eileen L. Mathis, age 92, of LaValle, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at her home surrounded by family. She was born on November 30, 1932, in Illinois, the daughter of Otto and Mabel (Nufer) Berner. She was a graduate of Lindbloom High School in Chicago, IL, where she was a standout speedskater. On July 2, 1955, Eileen was united in marriage to Robert K. Mathis. This marriage was blessed with three daughters. After marriage Eileen and Bob moved to Bartlett, IL where she raised her family and worked as a bank teller for 50 years. Following retirement, they moved to Lake Redstone, rural LaValle, WI. There she enjoyed boating, maintaining her lawn and flowers and relaxing in the peaceful life that came with living on the lake. Eileen was a watercolor artist. She sold many of her paintings in the Cabin Shop at Hartje’s.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert in 2007, and her eight siblings and their spouses. Eileen is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Bill) Ficht, Debbie Kumorek (Mark Sommers), Carol (Lynn) Lampfier; grandchildren, Samantha (Ryan) Sussek, Kyle Sussek, Kristi (Nick) Flolid, Lori Kumorek; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Graedy, Annabelle and Kashton; many nieces and nephews; along with other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Eileen will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, LaValle, WI, with Father John Blewett officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, LaValle. Visitation will be held on Friday morning from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the church. The Farber Funeral Home, Reedsburg, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
