Eleanor Luehrsen Obituary

Eleanor E. Stubenvoll Luehrsen, age 94, of Reedsburg, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2023, at the Reedsburg Area Senior Life Center.  She was born on June 24, 1928, in Clintonville, WI, the daughter of Reverend Carl F and Edith (Dickers) Stubenvoll.  At the age of six, Ellie moved to Loganville with her family.

Ellie was a 1946 graduate of Reedsburg High School. She attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa for one year, and one year at UW-Madison to study music. On April 30, 1949, she was united in marriage to Donald W. Luehrsen at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Loganville. This marriage was blessed with four children. Don preceded her in death on December 19, 2008.

Eleanor was highly active in music, both teaching voice, and directing choral groups for over forty years. The Sauk County Homemakers Chorus sang under her directorship while on an Eastern USA and a European tour. Family and music were always an important part of Ellie’s life and were interwoven in everything she did. She remained active in music through church and the community. She was an active member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Reedsburg. She was a golf enthusiast, a quilter, and enjoyed fishing with her family when she was able.

The family is grateful to all the staff at Reedsburg Area Senior Life Center.  She was a resident for many years, she made many friends and received outstanding care. Thank you.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; daughter, Jane, in infancy; her parents, Rev. C.F. and Edith Stubenvoll; brother, Rev. Carl L. Stubenvoll and his wife Helen; mother and father-in-law, Albert and Amanda Luehrsen; daughter-in-law, Charlene Luehrsen; and son-in-law, Peter Young.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, John (Jean Schomisch) Luehrsen of Madison, Mary Luehrsen (Gurney Williams) of Rye, NY, and Paul (Saralyn) Luehrsen of Cocoa, FL; grandchildren, Eric (Mary) Luehrsen of Dearborn, MI, Virginia Luehrsen of Austin, TX, and Amanda Young of Nashville, TN; great-grandchildren, Layla and James Luehrsen; nieces and nephews, along with other relatives and friends.
