Florence M. Abbs, age 98, of Reedsburg, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Our House Assisted Living on Mack Drive in Reedsburg. She was born on September 7, 1926, in Reedsburg, WI, the daughter of Theron and Olive (Sanders) Townsend. 

On September 27, 1945, Florence was united in marriage to Samuel W. Abbs.  This marriage was blessed with one son, Bill.  Samuel preceded her in death in 1990.

Samuel and Florence enjoyed riding their motorcycle and were members of the Retreads Motorcycle Club.  Florence frequented garage sales and enjoyed finding hidden treasures.  She was an avid traveler.  The standing joke in the family is that Florence asked family and friends to ‘make an appointment’ to visit with her.  There was no telling where she may have ventured on any given day, always to return around 5:00 PM.

Florence was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Reedsburg for many years and a registered member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She worked at Hankscraft for many years.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers Patrick, Henry, Tony, Lawrence and sister Helen.

Florence is survived by her son, Bill (Jute) Abbs; grandson, Steve (Marianne) Abbs, great grandson, Jonas (Kira) Abbs, and great-great grandson, Everett Abbs, all of Maryland.

In accordance with Florence’s wishes a graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 18, 2024, in the Greenwood Cemetery, Reedsburg, with Pastor Joseph Corbin officiating.

The Farber Funeral Home, Reedsburg, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
