Frederick W. Hutchens, age 84, of Reedsburg, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at SSM Health Hospice House in Baraboo. Fred was born in Reedsburg, WI on February 25, 1940, the son of Homer and Rachel (Walker) Hutchens, and grew up in Rock Springs. Fred married Patricia Hanson on January 7, 1961. They lived in the Reedsburg area most of their lives, 51 years near Ironton. During his life he worked for 35 years at Grede Foundry while farming his 21 acre farm. Fred had beef cattle for 10 years, then grew commercial ginseng for 16 years.

In 1994 he retired from Grede and joined his wife, Pat at Hutchen’s Decorating. His big love was selling and hanging thousands of blinds, and also mixing paint. In 2007 they retired, and in 2021 they sold their farm and moved to Reedsburg. He loved working hard even though he had asthma most of his life.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Hutchens White; his parents; his in-laws, Gayle and Mary Hanson; brothers, Jim and Jerry (Alma) Hutchens; and his sister, Betty Norwalk.

Fred is survived by his wife, Pat; a son, Robert (Rosemary) Hutchens; grandchildren, Jessica and Patrick Sullivan, Paul and Rachel Hutchens; and great-grandchildren, Jordan, and Emma Ayers, and Carley Jo Marks; son-in-law, Richard White; sister, Peggy Cushman; brother-in-law, Allen Norwalk; sister-in-law, Valeria Hutchens; many nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Fred will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Friday, July 12, 2024 at the Bible Baptist Church, 809 Explorer’s Lane in Reedsburg with Pastor Fred Weiss officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 10:30 A.M. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be made in Oak Hill Cemetery in North Freedom.
