Gary T. “Coop” Cooper, age 79, of Reedsburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 5, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 20, 1941, in Reedsburg, WI, the son of Cyril and Eva (Brimmer) Cooper. Gary proudly served his country in the US Army and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. On August 13, 1966, Gary was united in marriage to Mary Jo Imhoff in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Reedsburg. This marriage was blessed with two children. Gary was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Reedsburg American Legion Post #350.
Gary was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He followed his children and grandchildren in all their sporting events, and truly enjoyed traveling with Mary Jo to various cities with the parent groups. He also loved family trips and rides in the country. Gary and Mary Jo were familiar faces at the Dells Motor Raceway where Mary Jo sold tickets and Gary would be found making hamburgers. Gary never met a stranger; he enjoyed meeting new people and making friends wherever he went. The time he spent with his friends was equally important to him. One of his favorites was his slow pitch softball team, “Gups Gang”. Great memories were made playing in many tournaments through the years.
Gary is survived by his wife, Mary Jo; son, Terry (Irene) Cooper; daughter, Amy Cooper and Kevin Rose; grandchildren: Alex, Ian and Evan Cooper; sisters, Joyce Hinze and Nancy Long; brothers and sisters-in-law: Bill Imhoff, Jim Imhoff, Jean McGuire, Jane (Tom) LaBansky, Pat (Helga) Imhoff, Louise (Gordy) Muehe, Margaret (Gary) Smelcer; many nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends.
