Genevive R. Mortimer

Genevive “Gen” Rose Mortimer age 94 left this life to be with her beloved husband Pat on July 12th, 2018 from the loving care of Greenway Manor in Spring Green.

She was born on July 28th, 1923 in Cazenovia Wi to William and Belle Fisher.  On August 15th, 1940 she was united in marriage to the love of her life Walter “Pat” Mortimer for 68 wonderful years until his passing in 2008.

Gen lived a full life of family, friends, church, and community.  Pat and Gen were always the first to offer help, volunteer, or donate when needed.

Gen worked numerous jobs throughout her long life.  She farmed side by side with Pat for many years.  They then built and ran Mortimer’s Market in Ironton, WI.  She worked outside of the home in WI Dells during the summer when needed, worked at Badger Army Ammunition Plant, and was a custodian at Ironton-La Valle Elementary school. 

Gen was active in many organizations.  Homemakers, Royal Neighbors, Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, Rural Mail Carriers Auxiliary, Reedsburg Hospital Volunteer, and Voter Lady Registry.

Gen was an active member of the Ironton Methodist Church, Sunday School Teacher, MYF Leader, Thursday Church Dinners, Communion, and Sunday Usher.  Gen’s faith in God and People never wavered. 

She was a fabulous cook and baker and mentored her family to continue her traditions and techniques.  No recipes required for many.  She could put a meal out for thrashers and did when on the farm, as well as any family and holiday events, sometimes pulling a delicious meal out of thin air when someone just dropped in.  Everyone was always welcome at Gen’s table. 

She was crafty and artistic.  She could turn her imagination into such fun projects.  So many unbelievable treasures were found while going through the house this past year. 

Gen had a deep love for animals.  Her faithful dog Toto ever by her side and regular visitor at the nursing home.  She loved living on the farm even with the hard work.  She kept a deep affection for all animals especially guernsey cows, dogs, cats, horses, and even chickens.  She also loved feeding and watching all the birds throughout the seasons, and the last few years being introduced to Black Mules.  She loved going for rides in the wagon or bobsled, and loved telling everyone about “The Boys” and showing pictures. 

Gen’s greatest passion in her life was family.  Pat and Gen were regular spectators at all volleyball, basketball, softball, football, baseball, dance, rodeo, and any other sporting or school events for “their” kids whatever the season.  They were always there cheering.   The pride was evident on their faces.  They were the #1 fans. 

Pat and Gen could always be seen on the dance floor amazing everyone with their dancing with the stars skills and the joy they had dancing with each other.

Gen was always in the passenger seat ready to go on one of their driving trips.  It was always an adventure because Gen couldn’t read a map very well, which instigated some heated exchanges.  However, they always ended up somewhere with a fun story to tell.   They were in almost every state, Mexico, and Canada.  They enjoyed many train rides and loved to fly.  They loved meeting new people and were fast friends instantly. 

Gen is survived by her 2 daughters -  Susan (Carroll) Hays of Texas and Connie (Jeff Paulson) Mortimer French of Spring Green.

Grandchildren – Jill (Jerry) Warren, Kelly (Steven) Loesch, Scott (Kimberly) French, Jennifer Schwartz, and Mariah (Russell) Hill.  Great Grandchildren – Haley, Wesley, Heather, David, Nathan, Aria, Eiden, Will, Lizzie, Jaycie, and Sofie.  Great-Great grandchildren Jaxon and Kaden.  

Sister in Laws Muriel Blakeslee and Connie Mortimer.  Brother in Law Duane Mortimer.  As well as many nieces, nephews, and wonderful family and friends. 

She is proceeded in death by her husband Pat, loving parents, 2 brothers Robert and William Fisher.  As well as many brother and sister in laws. 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, July 20, 2018, at the Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg, WI. Visitation will be Thursday night July 19th from 4-8pm and Friday from 12:00 until time of service.  Burial will follow in Resting Green Cemetery, Ironton, WI.  Luncheon to follow. 

Thank you to Greenway Manor for all the kindness and loving care you gave.  It wasn’t easy dealing with such a sassy lady.  You were all wonderful to her.  She loved having her fancy nails and all the afternoon crafting and game playing.
