George Kamperman, a member of the Reedsburg community, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025, at the age of 98. Bom on May 31, 1926, George lived a long and fulfilling life, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and wisdom. A distinguished acoustical engineer, George worked with Bolt, Beranek, and Newman Inc. (BBN) for 20 years, where he played a key role in opening the company's Chicago office. He later founded his own acoustics consulting business, dedicating another 40 years to a career that spanned an incredible range of projects from rockets to roller coasters, including collaborations with NASA and the U.S. military Beyond his professional achievements,
George had a deep love for nature and the outdoors. He enjoyed camping with his family and found great joy in tending to his gardens. Whether cultivating prize-winning roses, maintaining a large vegetable garden that doubled as an ice-skating rink in winter, or surrounding his patio with fresh herbs, George took pride in creating beauty and sharing it with others. Above all, George was a devoted family man. He was not only a loving father to his children but also a caring and supportive stepfather who embraced his role with warmth and dedication. He formed deep and lasting bonds with his stepchildren, guiding them with wisdom, kindness, and a father's love. His presence in their lives was a gift they will always cherish. George will be remembered for his warm smile, gentle spirit, and unwavering willingness to lend a helping hand. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karen; his sister, Martha (Ray) Joynt of Michigan; his children, Laura Kamperman of Kentucky, Bruce (Judy) Kamperman of Illinois, Paula Kamperman (Jamie Martinez) of New York, and Mark (Deborah) Kamperman of Illinois. He was also a beloved stepfather to Michael (Laura) Deibel, Vicki (Jack) Mener, Scott Deibel, Susan (Rusty) Ramirez, and David (Lisa) Schmidt. George leaves behind six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie "Kamp" Kamperman and Neoba (Buenger) Kamperman, as well as his sister, Margaret (Ingham) Jepson. George's legacy of warmth, intellect, and generosity will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him. A Celebration of Life for George will be held at a later date.
