Gerald "Gerry" L. Mautz

Gerald Lee “Gerry” Mautz, age 78, of Reedsburg, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at the Reedsburg Area Medical Center.  He was born May 1, 1944 in Minot, ND, the son of Emanuel and Elsie (Schadler) Mautz.  Gerry grew up in rural Garrison, ND on a farm homesteaded by his grandparents.  He was a graduate of Garrison High School.  After graduation, Gerry moved to Milwaukee where he was employed as a machinist with P&H Mining Equipment for 44 years.

On August 6, 1964, Gerry was united in marriage with Eunice L. Renner in Milwaukee, WI. This marriage is blessed with two children. The Mautz’s raised their family in Milwaukee, and Gerry retired from P&H in 2008. Then he and Eunice moved to Reedsburg one year later.  Gerry was a member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Reedsburg, and the Sauk County Master Gardeners. Along with gardening, Gerry enjoyed woodworking, photography, and was a huge Bruce Springsteen fan.  He also loved to travel throughout the US, especially exploring the National Parks.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William and Ken; and sister-in-law, Shelly Mautz.

Gerry is survived by his wife, Eunice; daughter, Penni (David) Oelschlaeger; son, J.R. Mautz (Christine Maltby); grandchildren, Elizabeth and Nick Oelschlaeger, Hendrick and Cooper Maltby; brother, Allan Mautz; sister, Shirley (LeRoy) Hall; brother-in-law, Larry (Bev) Renner; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Gerald L. Mautz will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 27, 2023, at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Reedsburg, with Pastor Beth Voigt officiating.  Visitation will be on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church.  Memorials may be made to the Sauk County Master Gardeners.
