Harvin "Harv" Ziech Obituary

Harvin A. “Harv” Ziech, age 77, of Reedsburg passed away on July 10, 2022 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at home with family by his side. The son of Arvine and Gladys (Nachtigal) Ziech was born in Reedsburg on May 4, 1945.  He graduated from Webb High School in 1963 and served in the Wisconsin Army National Guard from 1965 until his discharge in 1971.   On October 22, 1966, he was united in marriage to Sharon “Sherry” Whipp at the Methodist Church in Reedsburg.

Harv was a heavy equipment operator, working construction for over 40 years until his retirement in 2008.  His two favorite machines were a D8 or D6 dozer.  He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 139.

His children were his greatest joy; deer and turkey hunting with Chad, watching Tracy's softball games, and being there for important events in their lives.  Family and friends enjoyed the many Farmall “A” tractor rides that always had a “detour” before reaching the final destination.  He will be remembered for his sense of humor, positive attitude, and enjoying life to the fullest.

In retirement, he and Sherry enjoyed traveling and fun times with family and friends.

His shed was the place where he spent most of his retirement days.  His wood working projects consisted of bird houses, bird feeders, trivets, and special requests (some were rather challenging) from family and friends. He enjoyed working with the kids who had 4-H projects in woodworking, teaching them not only how to use tools but the importance of safety when using them.

Having grown up on a farm, he enjoyed helping friends with the planting and harvesting of their crops.  He was only a phone call away if his friends needed help.

Harv is survived by Sherry, his wife of 55 years; son, Chad (Jen) Ziech of Green Bay; daughter, Tracy (Mike) Troge of Seymour; brothers, Dwight (Jean) Ziech of Hillpoint and John (Diane) Ziech of Reedsburg; brothers-in-law, Jim Whipp of Tennessee, and Rick (Ann) Whipp of Stevens Point; sister-in-law, Deb Dale of New York; and further survived by many relatives and friends

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; his parents; sister, Charlotte Holmes; sisters-in-law, Susan Ziech and Donna Whipp.

Funeral services for Harv will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2022 at the Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg with Agrace Hospice Chaplain, Rev. Derek Rosenstiel officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Reedsburg. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 14, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, and on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials of remembrance may be made to the UW Carbone Cancer Center for pancreatic cancer research, Sauk Prairie Hospital or Agrace Hospice.
