Helen R. Degner, age 98, of LaValle, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at the Sauk County Health Care Center, Reedsburg, WI. She was born on April 16, 1926, in LaValle, WI, the daughter of Edward and Caroline (Casey) Kannenberg.  She was baptized on July 8, 1952 as one of Jehovah’s witnesses.

Helen attended Sand School in LaValle. On April 19, 1945, Helen was united in marriage to Junior Theodore Degner.  This marriage was blessed with three daughters.  Helen enjoyed being able to be at home to raise their daughters, and later was self-employed in wallpapering and painting.

She was an avid fisherman in her younger years enjoyed embroidery.  She will be remembered for her great baking, including her bread, donuts and Lady Baltimore Cakes which she made for several weddings of family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted, on December 23, 1996, her parents, grandsons, Wyatt and Matthew, granddaughter, Ashley, 8 brothers and sisters.

Helen in survived by her daughters, Marsha (Joseph) Slesarik, Brenda Meacham, Rejeena (Allen) Gudenschwager, grandchildren:  David Slesarik, Amy (Denny) Goodall, Daniel Slesarik, Amanda Slesarik, Erik (Tara) Johnson, Damon (Vicky) Gudenschwager, several great-grandchildren, sisters, Janet Bengtson, Charlene Schultz, and Karen Mihlbauer, along with other relatives and friends.

A memorial service for Helen R. Degner will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses of Baraboo with Peter Kingslow officiating.  Visitation will be held from 12 noon until the time of the service.

The Farber Funeral Home, Reedsburg, is assisting the family.
