Janice Joane Bergman, age 85, of Loganville, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at SSM Hospice House in Baraboo. She was born on March 21, 1941, the daughter of Obert and Edith (Harman) Ulrich.

Janice spent much of her childhood growing up in North Freedom, WI. She attended Maple Hill Grade School and her freshman and sophomore years at Reedsburg High School. She then moved with her parents to Madison, Wisconsin, where she graduated from Madison Central Senior High School in 1959. She continued her education at Sauk County Teachers College, earning her teaching certificate in 1961.

Janice married Robert Bergman on May 25, 1963. She taught at Elder Ridge School before devoting herself to raising and caring for her own family. After her children were grown, she worked various part-time jobs, always finding a way to contribute.

Janice was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Rock Springs, WI. Her faith was an important foundation throughout her life, and her caring spirit led her to serve countless hours supporting her church, volunteering with Agriculture in the Classroom where she helped young minds grow, and volunteering at Sauk County Health Care Center to enrich the lives of others.

Janice found joy in the simple things in life - gardening, holiday gatherings, family meals, playing cards with friends and family, babysitting grandchildren, and countless everyday moments that now mean so much. She treasured the togetherness that filled those moments. A true teacher at heart, Janice loved to share what she knew. She would tell stories about growing up, family history, and the experiences that shaped her life. She also cherished sharing her many scrapbooks filled with memories and photographs. Through those stories and pictures, she kept family history alive and passed it on to the next generation.

Janice will be remembered for her resilience and quiet strength. Life was not always easy, but she met it with courage and dignity. She rarely asked for recognition and quietly cared for others, giving of herself in ways both big and small. She lived with faith in God as her foundation, a deep love for her family, and a quiet strength that was evident in the selfless care she shared with others. Her legacy will live on in the stories her family tells, the lessons she taught, and the lives she touched simply by being herself. Janice's life was a gift, and her memory will be treasured always.

Janice is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert Bergman; her children, Christine (Devin) Bergman-Strong, David (Monica) Bergman, Daniel (Angela) Bergman, and Jason Bergman; grandchildren, Melissa Bergman, Hope Strong, Oliver (Thor) Strong, Joshua (Taylor) Bergman, Isaac Bergman, and Aida Bergman; step-grandson, Aynsley (Debbie) Lange; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Hailey, Irene, and Basil; step-great-grandchildren, Jenna and Alex; sister, Jeanne Thurston; sisters-in-law, Syvilla Smith and Donna Bergman; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Obert and Edith Ulrich; her father and mother-in-law, Edward and Elsbeth Bergman; her sister, Darlene (Schell) Biesek; her brothers, Ronald Ulrich, Eugene Ulrich, and Marvin Ulrich; and her granddaughter, Melanie Bergman.

The family is deeply grateful for the love, friendship, prayers, and support shown to Janice throughout her life and to her family during this difficult time.

A Memorial Service for Janice will be celebrated on Saturday, August 8, 2026, 10:30 am at Zion Lutheran “Stone” Church, Rock Springs with Vicar Jay Kiel officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 4:00pm until 7:00 pm at Farber Funeral Home and at the church on Saturday from 9:30 am until 10:15 am. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery Loganville.
