Janice Arlene Mitchell, 79, was born on May 6th, 1945 in Clarence, Iowa, and passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 12th, 2025.

Janice’s parents, Albert and Lois (Long) Meyer, had five children. When her mother, Lois, passed away at an early age, her father married Shirley, and gave Janice three more siblings to go through life with. Janice was the only girl in a sea of boys, working alongside her brothers on the family farm. She met the love of her life, Jim, who asked her to marry him on their second date. She said, “Yeah, right.” But sure enough, they were married on July 13th, 1963. Together they brought seven children into the world, and worked hard to provide a good life for them. Through 61 years of ups and downs Janice and Jim’s love for one another never wavered, as they continued to be each other’s best friend. Janice and Jim were further blessed in life when their children made them grandparents. They loved each baby brought into this world, a sign of their legacy. You can imagine how ecstatic they were when those grandchildren turned them into great grandparents. Janice loved to talk about all the babies, showing off pictures to everyone she met. Janice also had the greenest thumb anyone could be envious of. She had an immense love for plants and flowers, showing off her skills with the most beautiful garden, and passing that love and skill on to her children and grandchildren. She had a knack for many things, but more specifically baking and crocheting. She was always baking some treat for her family or making blankets, pot holders, or wind spinners that she would give away to those she cherished.

Her legacy carries on in her children, James, Jann (Jeff), Jacqueline (Alan), Jeff (Erin), Jason (Alice), and Jennifer (Troy), daughter in law Shelby (Jerry), and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her brothers, Lavern, Dennis, Dana, Jim, Kevin and Terry.

Janice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim, their son Jerry Mitchell, her parents Albert and Lois Meyer (nee Long) her brother Larry Meyer, daughter-in law Tabitha Mitchell, and two granddaughters. She was so loved and will be equally missed. Her spirit will live on in her family always.

Graveside burial services will be held for Janice, Saturday, March 8, at 3pm, at the St John’s Cemetery in Reedsburg. Visitation will be on Saturday, March 8, from 12-2:30pm, at the Faber Funeral Home in Reedsburg.
