Jill Ann Machovec Obituary

Jill A. (Humbert) Machovec, beloved wife, mother, nana, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 13, 2026, at the age of 79, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on May 24, 1946, in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, Jill lived a life centered on love, family, compassion, and selflessness. She was known for her warm heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering generosity toward everyone around her. Whether through a comforting conversation, a home-cooked meal, or the countless sacrifices she made for those she loved, Jill touched the lives of all who knew her.

On April 12, 1969, Jill married the love of her life, Joseph Machovec, with whom she shared 57 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a beautiful family, raising four children and lovingly welcoming Mary Faith as their fifth child. Jill was a devoted and proud mother to Jennifer (Dan) Kast, Joey (Angela) Machovec, Jessica (Kevin) Machovec, Jara Machovec, and Mary (Nguyen) Schwartz, all of whom were the pride and joy of her life.

Jill was also a deeply loving and proud Nana to Kaite (Rashan), Danny, Caden, Peyton, Cael, Branch, Alicia, Joslyn, Erika, Lawson, Mataya, and Aidan. She cherished every moment spent with her family — especially holidays, celebrations, fishing trips, cabin stays up north, and the simple everyday moments together that meant the most to her.

In addition to raising her own family, Jill and Joe opened their hearts and home to numerous children through foster care over the years. The love, guidance, and stability they provided left a lasting impact on countless young lives and helped shape the people those children would become.

Jill dedicated her life to caring for children both at home and professionally. She began her career as a social worker in Clinton, Iowa, before returning to school to become a teacher. For more than 32 years, she inspired, encouraged, and cared for the students in her classroom. Her kindness and compassion extended far beyond her family and reached every child fortunate enough to know her.

Jill also gave generously to her community. She volunteered with the Women’s Fire Auxiliary, coached softball, helped at nutrition sites, and delivered Meals on Wheels. She lived an active and fulfilling life, enjoying softball in her younger years, and creating treasured memories with family and friends throughout the years.

Jill’s laughter, wisdom, kindness, and selflessness will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her caring spirit touched countless lives and taught so many the importance of compassion, respect, and always showing up for others.

She is survived by her loving husband, Joseph Machovec; her beloved children and grandchildren; her sister, Jara Schyvinck; brothers-in-law Donald Neumann and Dennis Neumann; many cherished nieces and nephews, including those affectionately known as “The Big 10”; along with extended family members and dear friends whose lives she touched in countless meaningful ways.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her twin sisters, Judy Neumann, and Jane Neumann; her brother-in-law, Dan Schyvinck; and mother and father-in-law Julia and Charles Machovec.

Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in the memories Jill gave us and the love she leaves behind. Her legacy will live on through the family, friends, students, foster children, and all those whose lives were forever changed by her kindness and unconditional love.
