Joan Marie Hackney

Joan Marie Hackney (Merschdorf), 71 of Reedsburg, WI, passed away unexpectedly on April 26th 2021 in her home. Joan was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on February 24,  1950 to Peter and Anne (Pinterich) Merschdorf.

Joan graduated high school in Wabeno, WI and attended college at UW-Oshkosh. She went to serve in the United States Army Reserves where she achieved the rank of staff sergeant. A true ‘Jill of all trades’, Joan had an entrepreneurial spirit and pursued multiple careers in her life. She loved working with people.

She had a true zest for life and absolutely loved spending time with her dear friends and family. When she was not working, you could find Joan in her garden, playing scrabble with her kids, or enjoying company around a campfire. On Sundays and holidays, she loved attending service at Trinity Baptist church with her family.

Joan was loved by and blessed with three children, Colin and Bobbi Hackney of Reedsburg, Carley Hackney of Texas, Christy Hackney, and Matt Davison of North Carolina. She was Nana Joan to 10 beautiful grandchildren, Cecily DeFoe, Mollie Davison, Jack Davison, Jacob DeFoe, William Hackney, Aidan Hackney, Mia Hackney, Henry Hackney, Ian Hackney and Charlotte Hackney-Davison. She is survived by brothers Richard and Linda Merschdorf of Arizona, Jim Merschdorf of Wisconsin and Paul Merschdorf of California. Joan is also survived by her beloved pets; her dog Schatzie and her cat Midnight.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Carole Merschdorf and her sister-in-law Linda (Paul) Merschdorf.

A gathering and reception will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at S3245 Evergreen Road, Baraboo, WI 53913. The memorial will begin at 4:00 P.M. followed by a celebration of life cookout and bonfire.

In lieu of flowers, please gather any pictures you may have of fun times spent with Joan. We would love to display them at the memorial!
