John Martin Cummings Jr., age 67, of Reedsburg, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at the VA Hospital in Madison. He was born on August 8, 1955, in Baraboo, WI, the son of John “Jack” Sr. and Lorraine (Terbilcox) Cummings. John was a 1973 graduate of Webb High School in Reedsburg. He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1974 to 1977. On May 17, 1980, John was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Eller at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Reedsburg. This marriage was blessed with three children.
John was employed with Scott Construction for 20 years and later owned and operated his own short haul dump truck service. He enjoyed the company and friendship of his work buddies. He was currently enjoying many advantages of retirement including spending time with his family and building memories with his grandchildren. John had a love of the outdoors; he enjoyed bonfires, fishing and taking care of his meticulously groomed lawn and garden. He was a great cook and was known for his master grilling skills. He was a good friend to many, and is remembered for being a jokester and for his fun sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dennis; along with brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob Eller, Kathy Dahl, Joe Eller, Gloria “Cricket” Eller, and Mike Eller.
John is survived by his wife, Ruth; children, Brian Cummings, Charlene Cummings-Little, and Stephanie (Ron) Hillebrand; grandchildren, Jordan and Tanner Little, Hailee Cummings, and Alexis Ferguson; siblings, Barbara Rogers, Julie Cummings, Cheryl Cummings, Mark Cummings, Raymond Cummings; brothers and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Cummings; John (Sandy) Eller, Carol Eller, Mary (Dick) Lockman, Lois (Floyd) Gruber, Margaret Rogers, Joyce (Hollis) Kleier, Judy (Ted) Chezik, and Dan Eller; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for John M. Cummings will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at 6:00 PM at the Farber Funeral Home with Daniel Farber officiating. Full military honors will follow. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 3:00 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
