Joseph Keith Wirrer, age 73, of Mattoon, WI, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025, at the Dove Healthcare Regional Vent Center in Chippewa Falls. He was born on October 12, 1951, in Antigo, WI, the son of Keith and Lucille (Jahnke) Wirrer. He was a graduate of Antigo High School in 1970 and attended a year of technical college in Wausau at NCTI.
While enrolled at NCTI he was employed as a television technician and part time director of Channel 7 in Wausau. He also worked for a brief time as a deputy sheriff for Marathon County. He then worked as a repairman for Sears for a few years before working in management for Marathon Rubber and LaCrosse Footwear. He was later employed with Fiskars in Sauk City before his retirement.
Joe liked tinkering and had a knack for electronics and computers. He was easily able to fix just about anything and never needed to call a repairperson. He enjoyed movies, fish fry’s, and a good old fashioned or grasshopper. His kids loved his sense of humor and his often predictable bad dad jokes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, former wife and mother of his children Suzanne (Sue) Wirrer, and nephew, Jesse Borneman.
Joe is survived by his children, Jennifer (Dustin) Geier, Cindy Makal (James Slama), Tom Wirrer (Paula Roethel), grandchildren: Ashley, Madisyn, Mason and Miles, great grandchildren: Aiden, Albi and Mati, sister, MarDee (Martin) Zimmerman, niece, Melissa “Misfit” Tierney.
A Celebration of Life for Joseph will be held at Hillsboro Roadhouse/Hillsboro Hotel on Saturday, February 1st, 2025 from 2:00 to 6:00 pm. Family and friends are encouraged to make reservations at the hotel if they would like to hang out further into the evening.
