Joyce Elaine Devore Obituary

Joyce Elaine Welch Devore was born at home on October 16th, 1931 to parents Irl and Blanche Welch in Sharon, WI. Her education in a one room school house and being raised on a farm fostered her lifelong loves of reading, illustration, and animals. A fondness for antiques spurred Joyce's entrepreneurial spirit and led to her ownership of several businesses including Crow's Nest Antiques and Dealers Choice Antiques. She was an avid promoter of antique shows and flea markets, which led to her involvement in beginning the Reedsburg Visitors Bureau, now part of the Chamber of Commerce. Joyce's love of the art of illustration developed into the opening of her museum, The Museum of Norman Rockwell Art in Reedsburg, WI. She owned and operated the museum from 1980 to 2002.

Joyce was a den mother for her son's cub scout pack and a volunteer for her daughters' brownie and girl scout troops, as well as being president of the United Methodist Women's Society in Reedsburg, WI. She was a caregiver for several of the children in her neighborhood community who's families continued to be life long friends.

After her retirement, Joyce's presence in the antique world continued until she was no longer able to travel. In her later years, she volunteered for the Reedsburg Area United Fund, and she enjoyed going out to eat and visiting with her family and friends. Joyce was married and divorced four times to three husbands; remaining her own person.

She is preceded by her parents Irl and Blanche (Forsythe) Welch; siblings Bette "Jean" & Robert Dykman, Morton "Bud" & Sherry Welch; daughter-in-law Carol Peterson; and her ex-husbands, Fred Sands, Clarence "Pete" Peterson Sr., and Ralph Devore.

She is survived by her children, Clarence "Peter" Peterson Jr., Darcy (Gerald) Berlin, and Darlyn Brenson; her grandchildren, Lisa (George) Bock, Joseph (Toshia) Peterson, Dayna (Andrew) Wood, Amber Devore-Tulogeski, Jaire Berlin, and Matthew Berlin; her great grandchildren, Megan (Cameron) Lee, Archer and Lochlyn Wood, Emma, Isabel, and Maggie Spinato, and Asher Peterson; and her great-great granddaughter Genevieve Lee.

A celebration of remembrance will be Friday, September 12 from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Reedsburg VFW Hall.

Joyce's family would like to thank Dr Fast, Carrie, and her caregivers: Paula, Alex, Brenda, Kim, Sierra, Alysee, Delaney, Taylor, Dan, Maura, Hailey, Jessie, Corrie, Tabitha, Raven, Ragan, Gloria, David, Alice, Carlin, Lauren, Spencer, Peggy, Jenny, and Karla.
