Judith A. Liegel, age 81, of Reedsburg, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, surrounded by family. She was born on June 25, 1943, on the Westerman farm, rural Ironton. The family then moved to Reedsburg. She is the daughter of Arnold and Emma (Burmester) Westerman.

In the early 1970’s, Judy was employed as an assistant to Dr. Pawlish in his medical practice.  She later became the medical librarian at the Reedsburg Area Medical Center. Above all her most cherished job was that of caring for her grandchildren and later great grandchildren. She introduced them to the many crafts that she enjoyed over the years as well as baking. She also contributed to the sweet cravings of all children who entered her home with her ever present candy dish or candy drawer.

Judy enjoyed the simple things. She liked being home, decorating for all the seasons and holidays and hosting family and friends. She loved being outdoors, especially to watch the kids play. She was also an avid reader.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Denise Landry; son, Richard “Richie” Wildes; brother, James “Jimmy” Westerman and former spouse, Melvin Liegel.

Judy is survived by her daughter, Vicki Wildes; granddaughters, Whitney (Matt) Hoy and Magdaline Berning; great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Dawson and Lakelyn; sister, Linda (Jerry) Endres; nephews and niece, Nick Endres (Katie Totel-Wallace), Emily Endres (Dan Westover), Matt Endres (Tiffany Schmelzer) and their children.

A memorial service for Judy Liegel will be conducted at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, January 25, at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Reedsburg with Pastor Kris Totzke officiating. Burial will follow in John Cemetery, Reedsburg. Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church.
