Karen "Goggy" Young Obituary

Karen “Goggy” J. Young, age 83, of Reedsburg, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, March 29, 2025, with her family near.

Goggy was born on February 2, 1942, in Reedsburg, WI, the daughter of Joseph and Iva (Cobbledick) McIntyre. She grew up in the Hillsboro, Oregon, and Elroy areas and was a 1960 graduate of Hillsboro High School. Following high school, she attended nursing school. At a dance, she met and fell in love with Larry Young. They were united in marriage on February 3, 1962. The couple then moved to Kenosha, WI, where they started a family and were blessed with three children. During their time in Kenosha, she also began a career at Chrysler, retiring in 2001. She later moved to Reedsburg.

Goggy’s greatest joy was her family and her dogs, who were loved just as dearly. She loved being a mom, grandma, and great-grandma. She enjoyed playing card and board games, watching sports, going to the casino, shopping, planting flowers, sitting outside, and simply spending time with her loved ones. Being around family—and friends—always made her happy.

She loved holidays and always dressed beautifully for them, complete with a pair of matching earrings. Even when rooting for her favorite teams—the Packers, Badgers, and Brewers—she had an outfit to go with. Watching Wisconsin sports was one of her favorite pastimes. Every fall, plans were made around Packer games—she rarely missed one.

Goggy was kind to everyone she met. She had a heart of gold—always caring, empathetic, and incredibly strong. She fought through every challenge and health issue with unmatched strength, grace, and faith. She was wise, funny, and sometimes a little spunky—just when you’d least expect it. Above all, she was full of love.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Julie Rizzio; grandson, Nicholas Rizzio; former spouse, Larry Young; sister, Mary Pertzborn; brother, Robert McIntyre; nephews, Andy Pertzborn and Sean McIntyre; and niece, Jane Jackson.

Goggy is survived by her children: Mark Young and Elizabeth (Marc) Coleman; son-in-law, Patrick Rizzio; grandchildren: Amanda (Tyler) Rugg, Kara (Luke) Imhoff, Rachel (Tom) Peters, Tim (Aleka) Kuhart, and Chase (Isabella) Vernezze; great-grandchildren: Aevah, Gabrielle, Addyson, William, Timothy Jr., Natalia, Wyatt, and James; brother-in-laws: Wayne Pertzborn and Donnie Young; cousin Linda, and many nieces and nephews; and her beloved puppy, Maggie.

Private family services will be held. A public celebration of Karen’s life will be announced at a later date.
