Leona Wells Obituary

Leona M Wells, age 89 of Reedsburg WI, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2023 at the Reedsburg Area Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was born on August 7, 1934 in Reedsburg WI, the daughter of Irene (Scholl) and Florian Gabelt. She married Marlen Farber on January 30, 1960. They raised five children together, that will forever carry their legacy.

She was a CNA at the Reedsburg Memorial Hospital from 1967 to 1975. She then worked and retired at the Edward Snyder Nursing Home from 1975 until 1994. It was there that she met her best friend Betty Davis.  After her husband Marlen passed away on January 14, 1995, Leona took a part time job as a hostess at Longley’s Restaurant. A few years later a co-worker set her up on a blind date with Phil Wells. She married Phil on June 14, 2003. Leona and Phil enjoyed traveling together.

Her love of helping others led her to volunteering her time at the hospital.  She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a woman of faith and she prayed the Rosary faithfully. Leona enjoyed making and donating beautiful crocheted afghans to various community fundraisers. All of her children and grandchildren treasure their "made with love" handiwork items she created for them. Her family and friends looked forward to her baked treats.

Leona will be missed by her children and their families: Ardie (Tim) Holter of Fountain City, WI, Pat (Lisa) Farber of Reedsburg WI, Marla (Randy) Nelson, Minot ND, Mike (Carla) Farber of Belleville WI, stepsons: Jeff Wells of San Marcos TX, Joe (Lynn) Wells of Lake Villa IL,  grandchildren Laurie (Darren) Snyder, Josh Eastman, Nick Eastman, Alicia Hess, Patrick (Christal) Farber, Melanie (Bill) Koenig, Lucas (Haley) Farber, Kayla (James) Montgomery-Daniels, Travis Nelson, Taner Nelson, Bailey Farber, Bryce Enloe, Danny Enloe, great grandchildren: Ava, Aidan, Luke, Norrie, and Tatum, along with step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, brother Donald Gabelt, best friends Don and Betty Davis, nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Marlen Farber and Phil Wells,  daughter and son in law Theresa and Bill Aylsworth, stepson Jack Wells, step daugher-in-law Patty Wells,  sister Mildred Gabelt, sister in law Betty Gabelt, brother and sister in laws Theodore and Mary Farber, and Wayne and Delores Farber.
