Lois Jean (Wilzewske) Kaney passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. She was born in Reedsburg, WI, on October 1, 1947 to parents Walter and Elsie (Jahnke) Wilzewske of Rock Springs.
She graduated from John Edwards High School, Port Edwards, WI, in June of 1965. In 1970 she graduated from Bethel College in St. Paul, MN. Her post –college employment in Minnesota included opportunities with Artronics Recording Studio in St. Paul, followed by time spent working for the Minnesota State Medical Association. Lois was then hired by Muriel Humphrey to become her assistant in Washington D.C. while Muriel finished out U.S. Senator Hubert Humphrey’s term after his death. Lois remained in the D.C. area as doors of opportunity opened up for her to work at Cray Research, World Bank, and then on a congressional committee addressing federal immigration and naturalization policy.
For a major portion of her life, North Freedom Baptist Church was her home church. In 1987, Lois returned to Wisconsin to provide care for her parents. On August 7, 1993 she was united in marriage to Vern Kaney until his passing in 2017.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband.
Lois is survived by her brother, John (Mary) Wilzewske of Wisconsin Rapids; her nephew, David (Jamie) Wilzewske; two great nephews, Dane and Shane; and two great nieces, Evangeline and Carys, all of Moscow, Idaho.
A memorial service for Lois will be conducted at 10:30 AM on Monday, December 29, 2025, at the North Freedom Baptist Church. A private family burial will take place at the Oak Hill Cemetery, North Freedom.
