The family of Mariann Joy Anderson, Reedsburg, WI, are saddened to announce her passing on September 1, 2025 at the age of 72 years.
Mariann Joy was born on April 23, 1953, in Racine, Wisconsin. She was a colicky baby that didn’t like milk. Thankfully she did develop a taste for ice cream and cheese later in life, but she never drank milk straight. She attended Horlick High School in Racine, WI.
Went on a blind date with Rodney Anderson, fell in love, and got married on March 4, 1971. They had two kids, and in her words, “one girl, one boy, one of each, done perfectly.” No need for additional kids. She graduated to grandmother on March 3, 1991, where she witnessed the birth of her first grandchild, in Racine, WI. She enjoyed being a grandmother and went all out, especially during the Christmas holiday. From all the cookies and treats she’d make to the over-the-top decorations: she really made everyone feel special. In fact, if you showed up on Christmas Eve, even if you had never met her, she’d run to her secret stash get a stocking (put your name on it) and fill it with goodies.
Mariann was very proud of her academic achievements, as was her family. She achieved a Bachelors Degree at Alverno College in Milwaukee, WI, while working full time and raising two children. Her dedication and hard work continued to show itself during her career. Throughout, the many years of her career she received awards, gifts, and special recognition. Her work ethic showed the next generation that women had the ability and intellect to compete in any work field of their choice. She was one of the warriors that put the first cracks in the glass ceiling.
Mariann is survived by her siblings; older brother, Edward Meininger Jr. (Cathy Meininger) of Semi Valley, CA; younger sister, Joyce Degroot (Bob DeGroot) of Racine, WI; her children: Shawna Parlin (Oliver Parlin lll) of Reedsburg, Corey Anderson of Loganville; her grandchildren: Xavier Anderson (and Jasmine Berger), Zachary Anderson, Oly Parlin, Hayden Parlin; and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded by her husband, Rodney D. Anderson; and her parents, Dorothy (McCray) and Edward Meininger.
She had a potato for every meal, and we loved her for it. Forever in our hearts.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
