Marilyn Nessler Obituary

Marilyn M. (Rix) Nessler, of Reedsburg, WI, was born March 24, 1947 at the Al Ringling Hospital in Baraboo, WI to Dayle T. Rix and Eleanora (Wallsch) Rix. She died Sunday, March 6, 2022 at UW Madison Hospital following an unexpected cardiac event on Friday, February 25.

She attended Black Hawk Elementary School and was a 1965 graduate of Sauk Prairie High School. She married William A. Nessler on June 7, 1969 in Sauk City, WI. She completed a nursing degree through Madison Area Technical College in May of 1991 and began her career as a Registered Nurse at the Sauk County Health Care Center in Reedsburg, WI. She had been working at St. Clare Meadows in Baraboo when she retired from nursing in 2013.

She was a member of Reedsburg United Methodist Church for over fifty years.

Marilyn had a lifelong passion of caring for animals - whether it was showing sheep from her family’s farm at the county fair in her youth, seeking opportunities to go horseback riding as an adult, greeting strangers in order to pet their dogs, or cuddling her own dogs and cats. She maintained a physically active, gregarious, and independent lifestyle, which included daily walks with neighbors and meeting up with friends for lunch.

She is survived by her daughter Kimberly Nessler of Bowling Green, KY; son Matthew Nessler of Sun Prairie, WI; sister Robyn Walvoord (Gary) of Kansasville, WI; brother Robert Rix (Mary) of Endeavor, WI; and close friend and companion Henry “Hank” Rohr of Portage, WI.

She is preceded in death by her husband (1988) and her parents (1999/2001).

The family will hold a memorial visitation on Saturday, May 14, 2022, from 1:00pm until 4:00pm, in the fellowship hall of the Reedsburg United Methodist Church in Reedsburg. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to an animal shelter or humane society of their choice.
