Mary Elisabeth Peterson

Mary Elisabeth Peterson, age 41, of Reedsburg, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020, unexpectedly of a heart attack at the age of 41. Mary was born on February 7, 1979 in Baraboo, WI to David and Pamela (Haagensen) Rick. On June 12, 2004 she was united in marriage to Andrew Peterson in Wisconsin Dells. She completed her teaching degree from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and recently started teaching at Royal School in Elroy, WI, after raising her two sons, Tyler and Kyle. She loved teaching and helping her students grow.

Mary was an avid baseball fan and a diehard Cubbie who was fortunate to see the Cubs win the World Series, and a hardy Bears fan who endured grief from family and friends. She had a love for reading, and had read more books that her family could count.

She was an amazing wife and mother, and taught her family how to live and love with humor, and with all their hearts. Mary loved celebrating the Christmas holiday with her family. She was a loving sister whose sarcasm and quick wit always made people laugh. Mary made everyone feel at home even from a distance.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Darleen and Harold Haagensen, and paternal grandparents, Norma and Orval Rick, and her aunt Konalee Shew.

Mary is survived by her husband, Andrew Peterson; her two sons, Tyler and Kyle; parents, David and Pamela Rick; siblings: Jennifer (Paul) Stricker, Sarah (Jeff) Schultz, Rebecca (Jeremy) Gilbertson, Andrew Rick (Michelle Castille); several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and cousins.

A memorial service for Mary will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, January 4, 2021 at the Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg with Pastor Steven Neyhart officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 3, 2021 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home and on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials of remembrance may be made for a college fund for her two boys.
