Mary Kathleen “Kathy” (Thomas) Bodendein passed away peacefully at the age of 79 on Thursday, May 8, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. A devoted wife, loving mother, cherished sister, valued aunt, and dear friend, Kathy’s presence will be greatly missed and forever remembered. Kathy was born on May 3, 1946, in Platteville to the late Phillip “Bud” and Catherine “Kay” (Neis) Thomas and grew up in the Belmont area.

After attending MATC in Madison, she moved to Reedsburg when she married on October 5, 1968. She is survived by her husband, Michael Bodendein. Together, they built a strong and loving family, raising their daughter Julie Bodendein (Tracy Craker). Kathy’s love of family was a cornerstone of her life. She is survived by her sister Carolyn (Floyd “Butch” Mapes) Thomas, brothers Delbert “Sonny” (Pam Sachs) Thomas and Tom (Kim Kuehn) Thomas, sister-in-law Marcie (Dale) Thompson, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Bill, who gave his life in service during the Vietnam War. The memory of Bill remained close to Kathy’s heart throughout her life. She was also preceded in death by her in-laws Johnnie and Caroline Bodendein.

Kathy was a woman of deep faith. A passionate lover of music, she found joy in church liturgy. She gave generously of her time to the Catholic Church community in La Valle as a cantor and member of the church choir. She was honored to sing at countless funerals and weddings in the area. Her voice touched the hearts of many. Kathy helped with the family farm, doing chores and faithfully doing the bookwork. Over the years she also volunteered at the local school and was a 4-H leader. Those who knew Kathy will remember her for her kindness and her ability to bring comfort to those around her. Her memory will live in the hearts of her husband, daughter, extended family and all who had the honor of knowing her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Kathy on Monday, May 12, 2025 at 11:30 A.M. at Holy Family Catholic Church in La Valle, WI. Reverend John Blewett will be the Celebrant. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until 11:15 A.M. Luncheon will follow Mass at Holy Family. Interment will be made in Calvary Cemetery in Reedsburg. May she rest in peace.
