Myrtle (Myrt) Mae Vogel

Myrtle (Myrt) Mae Vogel, age 102, of Reedsburg, WI died on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at Reedsburg Area Senior Life Center.  She was born May 16, 1920, in Osceola, WI to Oscar and Lillian Olson.  She graduated from Fairchild High School in 1938. She completed her nursing education in 1942 at Luther Hospital School of Nursing in Eau Claire, WI.  She worked there until she moved to Reedsburg, WI after she was united in marriage on June 26, 1943, to Louis H. Vogel in Eau Claire, WI. She enjoyed 61 years of marriage until Louie died in August 2004.

Myrtle worked as a Registered Nurse in the Reedsburg area for 45 years.  She worked as a staff nurse, then for 35 years as Operating Room Supervisor at Reedsburg Area Medical Center. She completed her nursing career as an RN at Sauk County Health Care Center. She was a dedicated and devoted nurse who loved caring for people.

Myrt was a faithful member of Walnut Hill Bible Church in Baraboo since 1956. She loved serving God and loved serving and caring for others.

Myrt and Louie moved from an apartment in Reedsburg to a farm southwest of Reedsburg in 1948. After selling the farm in 1992, they moved to a duplex in town. After Louie passed in 2004 Myrt moved to Ridgeview Heights Independent Living, then to assisted living and long-term care at Reedsburg Area Senior Life Center.

Myrt and Louie were blessed with two daughters: Mary (Roy) King of Union, OR, and Joyce (Neil) Dunbar of Golden, CO, and two granddaughters: Kristen (Scott) Walker of Soddy-Daisy, TN and Karen (Joseph) of Union, OR, and 5 great grandchildren.

Myrt was preceded in death in 2004 by her husband, Louie Vogel; three sisters, Arvilla Madel, Evelyn Setzer, and Lorraine Vold; and two brothers: Arthur Olson and Orville Olson.  Myrt has outlived numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 11:00 on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at the Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg, WI officiated by Pastor Dan Gunderson of Walnut Hill Bible church. Visitation will precede the service on Tuesday from 9:30-11:00 a.m.  Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Reedsburg.  In lieu of flowers, memorials of remembrance may be made to Walnut Hill Bible Church, Baraboo, WI, or Reedsburg Area Medical Center Foundation.
