Roger McEndree of Lime Ridge passed away Friday October 8, 2021 with his loving daughter Lora at his side. He was born October 24, 1947 in Reedsburg WI. Roger proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War.
Roger, a lifelong farmer, loved the hills and valleys passed on to him by his parents Donald and Theresa McEndree. Roger tended many animals on the farm raising cows, chickens, ducks alongside his canine and feline companions. As a boy he roamed his rural neighborhood with the Smith brothers swimming in the creek and sledding many a winter evening on the hills that were his playground. He learned as a young man to appreciate the land he lived on becoming a successful hunter and fisherman. Roger enjoyed spending time with his daughter Lora who joined him on squirrel and mushroom hunt journeys. Looking across the horizon to the next valley Roger could spot the exact location where a morel could be found. He loved to pick wild apples, make apple cider, hunt ginseng and grew a bountiful garden enjoying all these gifts that God gave him. In Roger’s eyes the land provided for all of God’s creatures. The small Bobolink song bird was most precious to him and held a special place in his heart. Each year he set aside acreage on his farm that was not to be disturbed for their nests. Their calls were music to his ears. Roger lovingly cared for his father in his old age together in the family home on the farm.
Roger worked for many years at Flambeau Plastics in Baraboo. During that time, he competed in pool league and tournaments, known as “Sharp Shooter” by his friends and competitors.
Lora and grandson Trenton enjoyed Grandpa’s company as he worked on getting healthy so he could go back to his beloved farm near Lime Ridge. He loved the view from his front window on the farm, the animals that lived in the forest and the kinship of his neighbors. Roger was willing to help anyone in need if he were able. He will be dearly missed.
Roger is survived by his daughter Lora McEndree and his grandson Trenton McEndree who lovingly cared for Roger and his cherished dog Megan. A special thanks to friends and neighbors Melvin and Sandy Smith.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Joyanne April 4, 2019.
