Ronald Hollis Elmer died the morning of January 18, 2024 in his Reedsburg, WI home during a visit with his son, Steven. Ron was 87. He grew up in Monroe, WI where he attended school and enjoyed playing cornet in the high school concert band and lettering in varsity tennis. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business in 1958. Later that year he married his college sweetheart, Barbara Skeris, with whom he remained married for 53 years until her passing in 2011. Early on they lived in the Milwaukee area for 12 years where Ron spent many hours teaching Steve to play basketball, baseball and football. They moved to Reedsburg in 1971 and adopted Jennifer from a Korean orphanage. Ron taught them both to love skiing and took them on several ski trips to Utah and Colorado. After their kids moved out, Ron and Barb travelled throughout the U.S. and enjoyed special adventures in Europe, Canada, and Alaska.

After retiring from a successful career in public accounting, including managing his own firm, Ron and Barb lived for several years in Reno, Nevada; there they played bridge frequently with friends and Ron loved skiing in the nearby mountains and golfing, sometimes even on the same day!

The chapter he loved most in retirement was becoming a grandfather when his daughter-in-law, Dayna Kennedy, gave birth to his granddaughter, Melissa Elmer. He paid attention to her love of France and bought many Paris-themed items for her. Similarly, he bought gifts for Melissa that had wild-life themes because of her keen interest in endangered animals and nature.

Ron was a life-long Green Bay Packers fan and thoroughly enjoyed watching and attending Badger football, basketball, and especially women’s volleyball games with Steve.

Ron leaves behind twin sisters, JoAnne Hanson and Nanette Disch; daughter, Jennifer Elmer; son, Steven Elmer; daughter-in-law, Dayna Kennedy; granddaughter, Melissa Elmer; and many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated for Ron Friday, January 26, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  The Reverend Paul Arinze will be the Celebrant.  Visitation will also be on Friday, at the church from 11:00 am until the time of service.  Burial will follow services at Calvary Cemetery.
