Susan Marie Hanko, age 76, of LaValle, WI passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family.  She was born on August 29, 1948 in Reedsburg, WI, the daughter of Roger and Anona (Douglas) Henke.  On October 29,1966 she was united in marriage to Donald L. Hanko.  This marriage was blessed with three daughters and one son. 

Susan was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in LaValle.  She had worked as an assembler at Ray-O-Vac for 23 years, and then worked at RAMC in the kitchen until her cancer diagnosis. 

She enjoyed sewing, gardening, tending to her flowers and spending time with her family.  She made countless quilts and many were sent overseas to children in need.

She was a woman of faith.  Throughout her cancer journey she remained courageous and knew the Lord would provide for her. She prayed often and spoke of Saint Michael-the Warrior of God and Leader of the angelic host.  One month before her passing she shared with her family she was growing tired and preparing to meet the Lord.  She passed with her family surrounding her as they sang her favorite hymns, notably The Old Rugged Cross and Amazing Grace.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Vernon and Evan Henke. 

Susan is survived by her husband Donald “Happy” Hanko of LaValle; daughters Laura (Rob) Duren, Sara Hanko, and Lisa (Bryan) Padberg; son Kevin Hanko; grandchildren that she adored: Denae and Dalen Duren, Amelia, Garrett and Anna Hanko, Jakob and Jaycee Wegner, Kaeden, Isaac, Sawyer and Emmett Padberg; sister Karen (Ron) Kalepp of Reedsburg; brother, Rodney (Jean) Henke of LaValle; sister-in-law Mary Henke; special lifelong friends Kay Mears and Shirley Daniels; along with many other relatives and close friends.

Susan’s family would like to thank Rich and Sandy, and Leo and Ginger, for their countless visits with food, love and support.   The family has had so many loved ones provide food, meals, flowers and support during this difficult time. They are forever grateful for the incredible support that is been given to them.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Susan will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday April 15, 2025 at Holy Family Catholic Church in LaValle with Father John Blewett officiating.  Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery in LaValle.  Visitation will be on Monday April 14, from 4:00 until 7:00 at the Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg, and on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the church.
