William G. Walsh (Willie), age 79, of Holmen, formerly of Reedsburg, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 8, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 20, 1944, in Baraboo, WI the son of Harold J. and Cecilia (Leece) Walsh. Bill attended St. Joseph Catholic Grade School and was a graduate of Baraboo High School. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He continued serving in the Army National Guard for a total of 38 years.
Bill was employed as a Retail Sales Manager for Viking Foods, Reedsburg, for many years. On October 24, 1997, Bill was united in marriage to Lois Treptow. She preceded him in death on October 24, 2010. Bill was a member of the Reedsburg VFW Post #1916, Mauston American Legion Post #81, Moose Club of Mauston, Sauk Co. Forty and Eight, Voiture 652. He was an avid reader of war history and politics, he enjoyed sitting on his porch watching birds, greeting neighbors, and looked forward to dinners out. Some of his favorite moments were camping with his buddies and shooting the breeze, along with going to the movies with his sister. This included hunting and fishing in his younger years.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Jennifer (Timothy) Spencer of Holmen, Rachel Walsh of Black River; stepdaughters, Stephanie (Michael) Hady of Mt. Auburn, IL, Angela Treptow-Voiss of Verona; grandchildren, Xavier Puzon, Aaron and Ryan Spencer, Marisol Montana, Chandler, and Makayla Hady, Loren Voiss, and Grayson Hady; sister, Helen Shortreed of Portage; along with nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Harold Walsh; sister, Mary Elizabeth Marquardt; brother-in-law, James Shortreed.
A celebration of William’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Farber Funeral Home, Reedsburg. Military Honors will follow. Visitation will be held on Friday, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Farber Funeral Home and on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Memorials of remembrance may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. There will be a small luncheon at the Reedsburg VFW from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm.
