William "Bill" J. Meyer Obituary

William J. “Bill” Meyer, age 82, of Reedsburg, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Madison with his family at his side. He was born on January 8, 1943, in Reedsburg, WI, the son of Paul and Myrtle (Herritz) Meyer. Bill was a 1961 graduate of Webb High School in Reedsburg. He proudly served his country in the US Army from July 1964 until July 1966, stationed in Germany.

He was a heavy equipment operator and dispatch during his time in service. Upon returning to Reedsburg, Bill was employed as a grader operator for the Reedsburg Public Works Department. In 1989, Bill became the Director of Public Works in Reedsburg until his retirement in 2006.

Bill was a member of the Church of God in Reedsburg where he was on the Spiritual Advisory Board for several years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #350. Bill was able to fix anything and family relied on his automobile repair expertise. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, following the Packers and Brewers and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting and music events through the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tamara “Tammy” Gauf; a child in infancy; mother and father-in-law, Dale and Jean Crawford. Bill is survived by his wife, Lori; sons, Jeffrey W (Dana) Meyer, Sean (Keriann) Kirkeng, Jesse Kirkeng; son-in-law, Mark Gauf; grandchildren: Amber (Ethan) Noe, Jacob Meyer, Jordan Gauf, Jessie Gauf, Gabby Gauf, Simon Kirkeng and Owen Kirkeng; great grandchildren: Landon, Brinley and Nash Noe; brothers-in-law, John Crawford and David (Deanna) Crawford; along with other relatives and friends; and his fur babies Star, Peanut, Buster, Bailey, Spunky and Shadow.

The family would like to thank Nicole, Crystal, Mike, Christina, and the SSM Hospice team for their wonderful care and support.

Funeral services for William J. “Bill” Meyer will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the Church of God in Reedsburg with Pastor Brad Cortese officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, North Freedom. Visitation will be held on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Church of God, Reedsburg, Building Fund, or the Carl W Nelson Animal Shelter in Mauston.
